Since the DADT policy was repealed last year, many military personnel and loved ones have been left with a lot of unanswered questions and concerns. Those consist of topics like, sleeping arrangements, what happens if someone doesn’t want to bunk with an openly gay person, hazing, since they separate men and women, will gays get separate quarters? All great questions, and all have answers. (Brace yourself for the sarcasm you are about to witness) What will happen with sleeping arrangements during deploments? Nothing. Sleeping arrangements are for living and sleeping. Being gay does not make you sleep or live any differenly than a straight person. Gays do not snore louder, nor are they any messier than the next straight person. Being gay in the military has never been illegal, being openly gay, has. If a gay soldier was going to rape you in your sleep, he would have done it before you knew he was gay. The repeal of DADT has ruined the element of surprise for any gay rapists using the military as a source of prey, thus we should thank the repeal for making our sleeping quarters a safer place. What happens when someone doesn’t want to bunk with an openly gay soldier/marine/seabee? Well, those are called homophobes, or what I refer to as “scaredy cats”. There is no room for scaredy cats in the military. If you can take on the taliban, I think you can take on a gay man who risks his life alongside yours to protect our country. If you cannot, I suggest moving to San Diego. I hear they’re extremely anti-gay there.
What will we do to prevent hazing? Well, I don’t think we really need to worry about that. A gay Marine is still a Marine, haze at your own risk. Gays aren’t a flock of ballet dancers, they just happen to like people of the same sex. I doubt you’re going to find a whole lot of skinny, feminine, gays in the military. Before hazing a gay service member, remember what they have been trained to do.
Will there be separate showering quarters? Why would there be? No one showers together anyways, this isn’t an episode of MASH. Have you ever seen someone in the shower and immediatly been compelled to have sex with them? Gays don’t get that either. Fear not; your showers are safe. Rest easy knowing that you’ve probably been showering with gays the entire time, and have had no idea.Lastly, lets be honest here. Why isn’t anyone talking about lesbians? The fall into the same category and have been in the military for ages. No one has shown any discontent for their existence, so why is the world shining a beacon on gay men?
What is the point of all of this nonsensical banter? The point is that not a whole lot has changed except for gays in the military have gained freedom of speech. Now gays have the right to be proud of the one who stands silently behind them, supporting them, and keeping them going, like so many proud wives do. No one should have any say in who someone is allowed to love, and whether or not they can share it with the world.
